The crest
and prehistory of the familyI would like to thank Marek Milewski for help in defining the source materials.
The surname Gosiewski originates from a group of villages Gosie near Zambrow (Zambrów) in Poland. The name of the villages originate from the person Gotard from Milewo. He has founded the first village Gosie Lesnica in 1411. Later around Gosie Lesnica another villages were founded. About 30-40 years later documents can be found where people call themselves 'from Gosie' i.e. Jan from Gosie, Wojciech from Gosie. Not a long time later the first references of the surname Gosie (without 'from') can be found. The firs written document is the land act from 1642 where Stanislaw Gos crest Buyny is mentioned. This has remained for the next 1-2 generations in XV century. Later for convinience instead of Gos they were referenced as Gosiewski which is the final surname. Due to mistakes there were some variations of the surname like Gasiewski or G±siewski etc. but this is already a different story. The original spelling 'Gos' or 'Go¶' also remained in some regions.
Based on crest calendar from 1997.
¦lepowron
On blue background, standing on gold cavalery cross mounted to silver horseshoe there is a black raven. In the jevel above the crest on the helmet in the crown is the same raven.
According to the legend the crest was taken by the Korwin from Hungary after the marriage with a girl from Pobóg (Pobog) fammily joining the signs of both families. But according to heraldic studies the history of a raven in the crest is much older and originates in ancient Roman times. In Rome, in the times of Tiberius there lived Valessius Messala Corvinius. During the key battle with francs he was called to a duell by one of his enemies of a legendary strength and power.
During the battle suddenly a black raven came and sat on the Corvinius helmet. Valerius has easilly killed the disoriented franc. For memory of this event the Roman did include the raven in his crest.
¦lepowron, most widely known in the regions of Kalisz, Sandomierz, Sieradz, Ru¶ and Mazowsze was the family crest of about 350 families, including the Korwin and Gosiewski families.
Some Gosiewskis were had a different family crest - Korwin. The relation between both crests is close, and obvious when you know the "¦lepowron" crest origins and when you compare both crests:

The information below is not confirmed by any documents that I have seen, but it seams very probable. It differs a little bit from the history according to crest books while it originates at least one generation earlier. ..
The Gosiewski Family originates from a village Gosie near Różan about one / two generations earlier than the cited below crest books say. From this village originated four lines of Gosiewski fammily: the Zambrów (Zambrow) line of fammily, the Chełsty (Chelsty) line, the Bieszczady line and the Warszawa (Warsaw) line. The lines were originated probably by fours sons of some Gosiewski.
The Zambrów (Zambrow) family line
This fammily line after migration from Gosie near Różan (Rozan) founded (built) the village Gosie near Zambrów (Zambrow). This line is best known in the history becouse from this family line Wincenty Gosiewski (Hetman Polny Litewski) and his son Aleksander Gosiewski (Wojewoda Smoleński) originate.
The Chełsty (Chelsty) family line
This line was originated by creation of a big farm which
cousin of Wincenty Gosiewski either owned or created. The farm
was 30 big włóka (wloka) big which is about 900 hectars) and
contained villages: Modzele, Ogony, part of Młynarze (Mlynarze)
village between the road and Narew river, part of Kruszewo
village (south part of village and terrains up to Chełsty
(Chelsty). Generally the farm contained quite big terrain from
Chełsty to Różan. If you want to search theese villages on the
map you should try starting from Chełsty (Chelsty) [52deg66min
North, 21deg29min East]
It is known that grand-son of owner of the Chełst region became
also owner of a part of a village Mroczki-Kawki (it is about 7 km
south from Różan).
Many Gosiewskis still live in Chełsty and the Chełsty region.
The data on this part of the fammily can be found in the church in Płock (Bishops)
The Bieszczady family line
The third line of Gosiewski family originated by the member of the family who moved to Bieszczady. I have no information on this line.
The Warsaw (Warszawa) family line
Fourth and last family line who migrated to Warsaw. I have no information on them either.
The text below was taken from an ancient heraldic book, untranslateable into english for me (it's uning ancient polish language). Anyway, the family history starts in about XVth century, the family originates from a village "Gosie" in Zambrow region in Poland. If somebody could help me with translation - please contact me. This is a key material to understand the family roots.
